Bob Van Twyver, 2011
Bob Van Twyver rowed at Edgewater High in Orlando, Florida from 1979 – 1981. He went on to row at the University of Central Florida in 1983 - 84, and then at the University of Florida in 1985-88. At UF, Bob directed Learn to Row and Learn to scull programs at UF’s facility at Lake Wauburg. He continued to row in masters boats. In 1990, his “A” 8 earned silver at the US Rowing Master’s Nationals. ![]()
After graduating from UF in 1988, Bob began coaching the women at Edgewater in 1990 as a volunteer coach, eventually taking over as head coach in 1991. From 1991-1995, He also coached the Summer Rowing Program at the Orlando Rowing Club, focusing on juniors in 1991 and then as the Summer Rowing Program Director after that. From 1998 to 2003, he took a short sabbatical from rowing, but in 2004 Bob began coaching the novices at Stetson University in Deland. During the 2007 and 2008 seasons, he also served as a volunteer coach at Stetson. Finally in 2010, Bob began coaching again at Orlando Rowing Club and at The Florida Rowing Center.
Besides being a certified rowing coach, he is also a certified yoga instructor. After getting into yoga, Bob believes more than ever the importance of relaxation for health and peak performance. He has developed a post-workout stretching/cool down session for everyday use and especially those hard days on the water.
